Irwin's / Rankin Selection Irish Breads will make a
donation for every registration

Rankin Selection

  • Where can I learn more about Rankin Selection Irish breads ?

Irwin’s is Northern Ireland’s largest independent bakery and, in conjunction with celebrity ‘Irish Chef’ Paul Rankin, is the company behind the much loved, authentically Irish Rankin Selection breads range.  You don’t have to be Irish to love these breads and in fact millions of our loaves are enjoyed by GB consumers every year.

You can learn more about the Rankin Selection range of Irish breads on the following website – www.irwinsbakery.com, where there is not only product information but also some wonderful recipes and cooking suggestions from celebrity Irish chef Paul Rankin.

Record Attempt

  • Do I need to register immediately?

Ideally we want everyone to register online in advance of the day to help with our planning but we will be happy to take as many registrations on the day as well. Either way, you will need to bring with you a suitable form of ID – a birth certificate or passport – as we will have to provide copies to Guinness World Records to prove the validity of each entry.

  • How can I make a donation to support the campaign ?

To kick-start the campaign Rankin Selection Irish Breads have agreed to make a donation for every one who registers for the campaign (either online or in person on the day in London), but we are hoping that the well known generosity of Patricks and Patricias will also be realised.

Anyone who wants to support the campaign directly can do so in a number of ways.

    Direct Donation

You can follow this link to the Great Ormond Street Hospital website and use their online donation page to pledge your support – please ensure to record the Proud2BPat campaign in the 'Reason for Donation' section.

    Telephone Donation

You can also make a telephone donation by contacting the hospital directly and again quoting the Proud2Bpat campaign as the reason for donation.

Please contact: Sarah Hegley, Corporate Partnerships Dept, Great Ormond Street Hospital on Tel: 020 7239 3057

For those ‘Wannabe Patricks’ we are also encouraging you to get sponsored to change your name.

    Sponsored Name Change

Sponsorship forms to encourage Change of Name via Deed Poll are available to download as a clickable and downloadable pdf here.  We ask you to raise as much money from your family and friends as you can for your name change and to apply for your name change through the UK Deed Poll Service at the following link. Here you will be asked to confirm whether you are planning to attend the world record attempt on the day in Trafalgar Square on 16th March or not. If you are planning to attend and to be counted in the 'paddy poll' we will be present at the registration point to give you your Deed Poll showing your name change. Otherwise, for those still keen to fundraise but unable to attend, we will process your deed poll and post it to you. The nominal fee incurred will also cover postage and delivery in this instance with all this money going towards Great Ormond Street Hospital as well. Further details are provide on the Deed Poll link.

When you have gathered all the money you can, either bring it along with your completed sponsorship form on the world record day (16th March) to our Paddy Field in Trafalgar Square, or if you are not able to make to London on 16th March post it to the following before 31st March 2008.

Please send your sponsorship form and cheque or postal order payable to:

  • If I can’t make the event can I have my monies back?

It is for Charity, have a heart!

  • What and where is the World Record Attempt?

To promote the great name of Patrick (and its various derivatives) we are going to go for a world record to gather the most people with the same first name in the one place. The record currently stands at 1096 Mohammeds achieved in 2005 in Dubai.

We are aiming to have 1100 Paddies in place to beat this record.  The record attempt will take place on 16th March 2008, in our very own ‘Paddy Field’ at Trafalgar Square alongside London’s St Patrick’s Day celebrations and parade.

We will have volunteers and staff on the day to help direct you to the right place and will record all our Patricks or Patricias at a special registration point

In going for this world record we will raise much needed funds for the fantastic Great Ormond Street Hospital.

  • What form of ID do I need to be formally registered for the world record attempt ?

You will need to bring with you a suitable form of ID – a birth certificate or passport to prove your identity – as we will have to provide copies to Guinness World Records to prove the validity of each entry. A deed poll certificate showing a name change to Patrick will also be suitable.

Ideally if you could bring a photocopy of the particular documentation with you that would help speed things up, but it is not essential.

  • When do I need to turn up to be counted ?

It is important that you turn up between 12.00pm (noon) and 3pm to ensure you can be counted.

All we require from you is a form of ID, either a birth certificate or passport which clearly shows your name. Similarly a deed poll document which shows your change of name will also be valid – for those that have registered with our deed poll company to change their name and are planning to attend the event  we will have the deed poll certificates with us on the day to avoid issues of postage.

As we will have to provide proof to the Guinness World Records, we will take copies of the documents along with your signatures. Ideally if you brought a clear photocopy of the documentation this might help speed up the process of registration.

We will also take deed poll change of name applications on the day for a fee of £5 (all of which will go to Great Ormond Street Hospital), and will forward your certificate to you in the post. You will receive a certificate to prove you have completed the name change application process.

For everyone who registers, Rankin Selection Irish Breads will make a donation to the Great Ormond Street Hospital.  But we hope that our Patricks and Patricias will be equally generous.

  • Who can register for the world record attempt?

Anyone of any age can register for the world record attempt as long as you have appropriate ID to prove you are in indeed a genuine Patrick or Patricia. According to Guinness World Record rules we will be able to accept a birth certificate or passport as evidence. Similarly a deed poll document will be usable to show a change of name to Patrick. We will have to provide copies to Guinness World Records to prove the validity of each entry alongside your signature/registration.

Sponsorship

  • What do I do when I have a Sponsor Form?

We have offered an official sponsorship form on this website and would encourage you to raise as much money as possible to support your name change decision.  Ask your friends and family to encourage you to become an honorary Patrick for the day and to join the unique world record-breaking attempt in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital. You then have to simply apply to change your name through our deed poll partner to receive your change of name deed poll. This way you can be an official Patrick for the day and you will have earned your sponsorship money.

  • What do I do when I have raised my sponsor monies?

Where possible we will collect sponsorship money and forms on the day of the world record attempt in Trafalgar Square at our ‘Paddy Field’ registration point.  If all monies are however not collected by this stage we will accept cheques or postal orders as follows:

    Sponsorship Money via Cheque/Postal Order

Please send your completed sponsorship form and cheque or postal order payable to:
Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity and send it to:

    Sarah Hegley
    Corporate Partnerships Dept
    Great
    Ormond Street Hospital Charity
    40 Bernard Street
    London, WC1N 1LE

  • What will the funds raised go to support ?

GreatOrmond Street Hospital is a world-class children’s hospital, with the broadest range of paediatric specialists under one roof anywhere in the UK. It welcomes around 150,000 patient visits each year, treating patients with the most complex, life-threatening or life-limiting conditions. We are totally committed to find treatments and cures for some of the rarest and most difficult illnesses.

GreatOrmond Street Hospital ranks with the small handful of truly word-class children’s hospitals but delivering this standard of treatment, care and research is not cheap.

Many of its patients and their families are treated in conditions which are crowded, uncomfortable, lacking in privacy and falling short of what our families and staff deserve. For example, cardiac intensive care offers each patient only one-third of the space our staff say they need. To deliver the best modern care we need to redevelop the hospital and any funds raised will support this important project. You can find out more on the hospital website www.gosh.org

Wannabe Patricks - Name Change By Deed Poll

  • Can I change my name on the day of the event ?

We will be able to take on the day applications to change your name at our special 'Paddy Field' registration point in Trafalgar Square and will then forward your official deed poll certifcate to you in the post. You will also receive a certificate to prove that you have indeed applied to change your name to Patrick/Patricia. On the day applications will cost £5 - all of which will go towards Great Ormond Street Hospital.

  • What exactly is a deed poll and how will it affect my name ?

A Deed Poll is a legal document - not a certificate. It is a form of legal contract but it differs from legal contracts between two or more parties in that it only concerns one person (and it is only signed by that person).

Although Deed Polls are used for various purposes they have one generally accepted meaning, that is, a change of name. However, the correct legal name for a deed that has been drawn up to change someone's name is a Deed of Change of Name.

The Deed Polls offered by the UK Deed Poll Service also carry an official seal so there is no question about its authenticity.

In summary, a Deed Poll issued on behalf of the Proud2Bpat campaign provides you with documentary evidence that you have changed your name and that you are intending to use your new name. Although a Deed Poll is an English legal document, our Deed Polls are recognised by all government departments, companies and organisations throughout the United Kingdom.

  • Who can apply for a Deed Poll?

You must be over 16 years of age to apply for your own name change. Further details can be found on the UK Deed Poll Service Website.

  • Will I have hassle by changing my name by deed poll ?

The deed poll service we are offering as part of the Proud2Bpat campaign is very simple. The name change wil not take effect unless you chose to use the deed poll to actively change your name. It will however still allow you to be officially recognised as a Patrick in our world record attempt.

Follow this link to our campaign partner – the UK Deed Poll Service - and they will process your online application as quickly as possible. For those planning to attend the world record attempt on the day, we will take all the deed poll certificates with us and they can be collected on the day at the special registration point in Trafalgar Square. This will avoid any issues or delays with postage.

For those unable to attend but still keen to raise money for the Great Ormond Street Hospital don’t worry. We will process your application and post it to you - the nominal charge involved will also go towards Great Ormond Street Hospital. Details about this are available on the link.

  • Will I have to change my name back ?

A Deed Poll is a formal statement to prove that you have changed your name and it provides you with the necessary documentary evidence of the name by which you wish to be known – should you wish to act on that basis.

While you will receive a deed poll document from us to say you have changed your name to Patrick it will not take effect, unless you write to write to everyone, including your Bank, utility company etc, enclosing your Deed Poll as documentary evidence, and formally request that your name is changed to the new name shown on the Deed Poll.

That way, unless you actively use your deed poll in this way it will not take effect and therefore it is not necessary to change your name back.
